Keya Tama

Keya Tama is a South African artist based in New York. Inspired by contrasting the past and present, Keya’s practice explores recurring themes that combine ancient and contemporary iconography, family and community, mono-myths, and minimalism. His work has been the focus of numerous exhibitions and mural projects including the Cartoon Network Gallery, Los Angeles; The Museum of Anthropology, Canary Islands; and Subliminal Projects, Los Angeles, among others.

This print radiates a quiet warmth, composed in a palette of muted peaches, ochres, and sun-faded reds. Drawing from the archetype of the Hero’s Journey, the composition reveals itself through obliquely rendered symbols that suggest ordeal, persistence, and transformation.

The path meanders like a game without fixed origin or end, guided not by linearity but by the residue of memory. It gestures toward an inward passage, a cycle of departure and return, where meaning accumulates through movement rather than arrival.

The title Tied by Time echoes this theme. It speaks to the way moments bind us, how memory and experience form the threads that weave continuity through disjointed steps.
