Artist info

el gato chimney

El Gato Chimney (1981) was born in Milan, where he lives and works. Self-taught, he began his career dedicating himself first to street art and then to accurate research work in the studio, focused on primitive and sacred art, esotericism and spiritism, folklore, and magical realism in literature. Filtering these inspirations through a contemporary vision, the artist combines the two eras and creates a dual world, realistic and surreal at the same time, which poses continuous questions, decipherable thanks to the clues of which his work is scattered. The undisputed protagonists of his works, animals, often portrayed with masks and ceremonial clothes derived from European and Eastern traditions, remind the observer to celebrate life thus escaping death, a universal experience among human beings. Major solo exhibitions include; 2021, Dictionaries Of The Wind, William Baczek Fine Arts, Northampton, USA, Bands And Feathers, Tory Folliard Gallery, Milwaukee, USA; 2018, Observing Nature, Contemporary Istanbul, Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea, Istanbul, True North, Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea, Milano; 2016, The Forest Fire, Galería Combustión Espontánea, Madrid; 2015, De Rerum Natura, Stephen Romano Gallery, New York.
